DoT to hire accounting firms for auditing telecoms

ITU Radiocommunication Assembly
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has come out with a tender to select CA firms to conduct special audit of telecom network operators from 2008 onwards.

The last date to submit the application is November 24 and the selection of the CA firm is likely to be completed in two months, PTI reported.

“It will take two months to select the CA firm and the audit process may take about six months,” DoT official said.

DoT had earlier conducted the audit of Indian telecom network operators for assessment years 2006 to 2008. While the earlier auditing followed complains regarding under-reporting of revenues by some telecom companies in India, DoT has not received any complaint regarding any company this time.

DoT had served show-cause notices to five private telecom network operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices, involving about Rs 1,637 crore for under-reporting revenues a few years ago.
