Telecom Lead India: State-run telecom operator BSNL
has increased the minimum broadband download speed to 512 Kbps from 256 Kbps
for most of its existing wire-line customers at current tariffs.
In limited plans like BBG Combo 299, the speed has been upgraded from 256 Kbps
to 512 Kbps.
The speed of unlimited plans like BB Home ULD 499 and BB
Home Combo ULD 625, will now be 512 Kbps from 256 Kbps, whereas for BB Home ULD
750 and BB Home Combo ULD 750, it has beeb upgraded to 1 Mbps from 512 Kbps.
For BBG Combo ULD 850 plan, the speed has been upgraded from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps.
In wire-line broadband, BSNL has over 64 percent market share with more than
8.5 million customers.
In totality, BSNL holds 56.94 percent of the market share with
reported subscriber base of 11.95 million Internet subscribers at the end of
September 2011 as against 11.63 million at the end of June 2011.
BSNL doubles broadband speed for its 5 plans
Recently, BSNL decided to upgrade the bandwidth of its five plans, which will
be effective from February 1, 2012.
BSNL increased the internet speed to 512 kbps from
256 kbps for its combo plan of Rs 299 monthly. In its Rs 499 plan, the speed
would be 512 kbps and 4 GB usages.
BSNL has a multi-gigabit, multi-protocol convergent IP infrastructure that
provides services like voice, video and data through the same backbone and
broadband access network.
