BSNL focuses on IP-based network to address mobile data growth

Telecom service provider BSNL is focusing on IP-based network to address the data growth in the country.
Under the phase 7 expansion plan, BSNL is transforming its TDM-based network to a complete IP-based network, Economic Times reported.

“We are installing new BTSs under the ongoing phase 7 expansion plan, which will be completed by early March 2014,” said BSNL chairman and managing director RK Upadhyay.

The expansion is taking place for more than 14 million lines, which will help increasing capacity in its network. BSNL is bringing next-gen network and all the TDM switches on BSNL network will be changed to IP-based switches.

BSNL has already announced that the telecom service provider is planning to spend about Rs 40,000 crore over the next 5 years.

Telecom operators such as Vodafone India, Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel, etc. are also spending heavily on IP networks to address data demands of their customers in India.
