BT Acquires TalkTalk in £400 Million Broadband Rescue
BT Group has acquired broadband operator TalkTalk and PlatformX out of administration, committing an estimated £400 million cash impact in fiscal 2027 to protect continuity for millions of customers. TalkTalk had been burdened by about £1.5 billion of debt and was placed into administration after failing to secure a buyer. The transaction safeguards services for about 2.5 million customers and around 900 jobs, while the UK government accelerated regulatory consideration because of potential risks to consumers and critical public services. BT and TalkTalk are expected to operate separately while a regulatory review takes place. The deal strengthens BT’s UK broadband position while raising competition concerns.
Jio Platforms Targets October 21 IPO in India’s Biggest Listing
Jio Platforms plans to launch its initial public offering on October 21, targeting about $3.8 billion, Reuters news report said. The shares are expected to list on October 28, potentially making the offering India’s largest IPO, surpassing Hyundai Motor India’s $2.9 billion listing in 2024. Proceeds are expected to be used largely to repay debt owed by Jio’s telecom division. Jio Platforms, backed by investors including Meta and Google, has expanded beyond telecom into artificial intelligence, cloud and enterprise networking. The planned listing comes amid strong Indian equity-market activity, with nearly 250 companies reportedly preparing IPOs that could collectively raise about 4.65 trillion rupees, or $48 billion.
