Axiata announces appointment of Vivek Sood as CEO

Axiata Group announced the appointment of Vivek Sood as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective 24 March 2023.

Vivek Sood is currently the Acting Group CEO and Group CFO of Axiata Group since June 2022 and April 2017 respectively.

Vivek Sood earlier worked with telecom operators such as Hutchison India (2005-2006); CFO, Telenor India (January 2011-December 2012); CEO of Grameenphone (January 2013-October 2014), CEO of Telenor India (November 2014-October 2015), Group Chief Marketing Officer of Telenor Group  (November 2015-March 2017).

Vivek Sood will lead the company’s strategic growth initiatives, including the expansion of 5G and digital infrastructure and service offerings. He will also be responsible for driving innovation, improving the customer experience across operating companies throughout Asia.

Axiata also announced the appointment of Hans Wijayasuriya as Group Executive Director and CEO of Telco Business. Axiata did not reveal more details on the responsibilities of Wijayasuriya Hans.

Wijayasuriya Hans was one of the joint interim CEOs of Axiata.

Axiata also announced the appointment of Lila Azmin Abdullah as the Acting Group CFO. Lila is currently the Group Chief Corporate Development Officer at Axiata.

Axiata Group has stakes in XL and Link Net in Indonesia, Dialog in Sri Lanka, Robi in Bangladesh, Smart in Cambodia, Ncell in Nepal and CelcomDigi in Malaysia.
