AT&T upgrades telecom network in Illinois

American telecom service provider AT&T on Friday said it upgraded its network in Illinois targeting more than 40,000 former Alltel wireless customers.

AT&T acquired Alltel’s wireless operations including subscribers, spectrum and retail and network assets in September 2013.

Nancy Garvey, vice president and general manager, AT&T, said: “AT&T’s 4G LTE network is capable of data speeds up to 10 times faster than the 3G speeds on the former Alltel network. Customers can enjoy the latest smartphones and tablets and have retail locations.”

Former Alltel customers can benefit from upgraded network in Illinois where AT&T has set up more cell towers than the Alltel network and better call quality.

With the upgrades, existing AT&T cell towers can now provide enhanced indoor coverage and cover a wider area from each cell tower. The integration of Alltel towers into the upgraded network has increased AT&T’s cell towers in select areas of Illinois by nearly 75 percent.

This apart, AT&T offered a new comparable device to all former Alltel wireless postpaid customers in Illinois without any fee.
