America Movil revenue dips in Q3 as wireless users slip

America Movil wireless subscribers Q3 2017America Movil has posted revenue of 244 billion pesos (–2.2 percent) and service revenues of 210 billion pesos (–1.9 percent) in Q3 2017 primarily due to the impact of lost revenues in Mexico and Puerto Rico on account of the earthquakes and hurricane Maria.

America Movil generated 25.6 percent revenue from Wireless Voice, 36.5 percent from Wireless Data, 11.7 percent from Wireline Voice, 16.3 percent from Wireline Data and 9.9 percent from Pay TV in the third quarter of 2017.

America Movil has 363 million phone subscribers – 280.363 wireless users (–1.3 percent) and 82.719 million (+0.5 percent) fixed line subscribers. The company did not reveal any strategy to improve the growth of both wireline and wireless subscribers.

America Movil recorded a net loss of 9.5 billion pesos primarily due to a huge penalty to Colombia Government.

Comcel, an America Movil company in Colombia, paid 3,155 billion Colombian pesos or 1,070 million dollars to Colombia as a penalty.

This follows a ruling by an arbitration panel in Colombia that said its subsidiary Comcel was obliged to revert certain telecom assets to the Colombian Government under the terms of the original concession agreements granted in 1994 and extended through 2014.

America Movil said it achieved EBITDA of 66.3 billion pesos (–2.1 percent) and posted a net loss of 9.5 billion pesos in the quarter. America Movil’s capital expenditures were 84.3 billion pesos during the third quarter.

America Movil’s mobile data revenues rose 24.3 percent, while fixed-broadband grew 5.2 percent and PayTV revenues increased 0.9 percent in Latin America.

America Movil’s mobile data revenues increased 8 percent and PayTV revenues grew 22 percent in European operations.

America Movil said the South American block posted the fastest rate of service revenue growth at 3.4 percent, followed by Europe, Central America and Mexico.

America Movil said its postpaid wireless subscriber base registered an annual increase of 6.0 percent after net additions of 1.4 million in the quarter, including 699 thousand in Brazil and 202 thousand in Mexico.

America Movil said its fixed-line platform broadband accesses rose 5.0 percent after 345 thousand access gains in the quarter, while PayTV subscriber base registered 50 thousand disconnections.
