Telecom network operator Bharti Airtel announced that its mobile application Wynk Music has crossed 12 million downloads in over 12 months of its launch.
The Indian mobile service provider is generating more than two-thirds of these downloads by non-Airtel customers.
The average Wynk user is playing over 5 hours of music each month. The OTT music app by Bharti Airtel now clocks 5 million music streams and downloads per day.
The music app optimizes usage on 2G data. The company is offering ad free music and free downloads for the first month to non-airtel customers.
The latest version features a Save Data mode that enables mobile users to save up to 70 percent on Internet charges. Wynk Plus subscriptions that allow for unlimited downloads have also grown substantially on the back of bundling with Airtel data packs.
“The recent announcement of bundling Wynk Music subscription worth Rs 99 with data plans from Airtel will go a long way in making music affordable and also help curb piracy for millions of music lovers in the country,” said Kartik Sheth, CEO of Wynk Music.
Wynk app on Windows phones
The music streaming app has a library of over 2 million HD songs from India and abroad.
Bharti Airtel, the number one telecom service provider in India, has also launched a Windows version of the Wynk app to enhance its coverage across smartphones. This will ensure that Microsoft Lumia phone users will also benefit from the music app. Earlier, the music app was available only on Google Android, Apple iOS and WAP.
The telecom network operator will also add new fitness feature on the app as part of its deal with Airtel Delhi Half Marathon.
