Airtel offers prepaid plan with Rs 4 lakh life insurance

Bharti Airtel has launched a pre-paid plan that will come with in-built life insurance cover from HDFC Life Insurance.Airtel Wynk music loversAirtel customers — who opt for the Rs 249 prepaid plan — will receive Rs 4 lakhs life cover from HDFC Life along with 2GB data, unlimited calls to any network and 100 SMS per day. The recharge is valid for 28 days and policy cover till recharge is active.

Customers need to enrol for the insurance after first recharge through SMS, My Airtel App or Retailer. The insurance renews automatically for subsequent recharges.

Airtel is offering the Rs 249 plan to all pre-paid customers across India. This will be a free insurance plan to Airtel customers across the country. Airtel’s mobile services customer base in India was approximately 284 million in 2018. Almost 95 percent of Airtel customers are on pre-paid plans.

The policy is available to all customer aged 18-54 years. There is no need for any paperwork or medical examination. The customer is only required to give a declaration of good health and the policy or CoI will be delivered digitally at any Airtel retail store or on MyAirtel app. Customers will receive a physical copy of the insurance on request.

Adarsh Nair, chief product officer of Bharti Airtel, said: “This is first among many powerful use cases that leverage the power of a telco to build a digitally enabled and financially inclusive India.”

The Airtel – HDFC Life partnership leverages their respective digital platforms and Airtel’s distribution reach.

Airtel, the #1 telecom operator based on revenue, has over 1.1 million retail outlets, and its mobile services covered 786,134 non-census towns and villages and its network covered 95.3 percent of India’s population.
