ZTE, CelcomDigi, and U Mobile set world record with 5G-Advanced speed of 30.8Gbps

ZTE, in collaboration with CelcomDigi and U Mobile, has set a new global benchmark for mobile internet speeds by achieving 30.8Gbps using 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology.

ZTE @ MWC 2022

The record-breaking speed was recorded during a live trial in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, making it the fastest mobile speed ever recorded globally. Additionally, individual users experienced speeds of up to 8.5Gbps.

The partners plan to demonstrate this cutting-edge technology during Malaysia’s first-ever 5G-A live broadcast at the Opening Ceremony of SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak. The broadcast, to be aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), will deliver high-resolution streams with minimal delay, providing viewers with a dynamic and immersive experience. This marks a significant advancement for broadcasters like RTM, enabling them to capture high-quality footage wirelessly, offering greater flexibility and real-time coverage capabilities.

Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration in realizing the full potential of 5G and 5G-A. Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, expressed pride in achieving the 30.8Gbps milestone, highlighting its potential for enterprise solutions. Steven Ge, CEO of ZTE Malaysia, reiterated ZTE’s commitment to innovation, as evidenced by this landmark achievement.

Visitors to the CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE 5G-A Pavilion outside Stadium Sarawak will have the opportunity to experience 5G-A enhanced XR (extended reality) firsthand. Utilizing 5G-A powered 360° cameras placed around the stadium, visitors can immerse themselves in the live action by wearing VR goggles, offering a glimpse into the future of mobile connectivity.
