Telia Extends Ericsson Partnership to Boost 5G Networks in Nordic and Baltic Regions

Telia Company has renewed and expanded its Radio Access Network (RAN) partnership with Ericsson  in a new four-year agreement covering mobile networks across Sweden, Norway, Lithuania and Estonia.

The extended collaboration will enhance network speeds, capacity and coverage while introducing advanced capabilities designed to future-proof Telia’s infrastructure and support business- and mission-critical applications.

Telia’s upgraded network, powered by Ericsson’s technology, will accelerate innovation and digital transformation in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, transportation and utilities. The network will also support Telia’s autonomous network strategy and its customers’ demand for highly reliable, secure and sustainable connectivity.

Country Highlights

Sweden:
Telia and Ericsson have jointly delivered Sweden’s top-rated mobile network for five consecutive years, according to independent benchmarking firm umlaut. Telia’s 5G now covers 99.9 percent of Sweden’s population. The two companies are also collaborating to expand 5G coverage along all Swedish train routes by 2030.

The NorthStar 5G Innovation Program, launched by Telia and Ericsson, enables advanced capabilities like network slicing and high-precision positioning for testing across industries. The Swedish Armed Forces recently joined the program to explore 5G-based defense solutions that enhance communication, logistics and security, supporting Sweden’s NATO integration efforts.

They are also working to modernize Sweden’s railway communication systems by transitioning from 2G-based GSM-R to the 5G-based Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), which will improve efficiency, safety and automation in European rail transport.

Norway:
Telia and Ericsson have achieved near 99 percent 5G population coverage in Norway. Tests using mmWave 5G spectrum reached speeds close to 4 Gbps, enabling new opportunities in enterprise services, gaming and stadium fan experiences.

Lithuania:
Telia’s network modernization with Ericsson has delivered 95 percent geographical 5G coverage, positioning Lithuania as a regional 5G leader. The network supports energy-efficient solutions in sectors including agriculture, healthcare and transportation.

Estonia:
Telia and Ericsson’s private 5G networks are driving innovation in Estonia’s industrial and IoT sectors. With 5G now covering 95.7 percent of the population, Estonia is emerging as a regional hub for intelligent automation and smart ecosystems.

The four-year partnership underscores Telia’s commitment to delivering sustainable, high-performance connectivity across the Nordic and Baltic markets, reinforcing its position as a leading digital services provider in the region.
