Telco Systems has completed the deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) network for the Kenya Education Network.

The company, a subsidiary of the BATM Advanced Communications, has installed the high capacity carrier network to ensure wider bandwidth to assist more internet traffic and enhanced data center inter-connectivity spanning across all of the universities and research institutions in Kenya.

“There is a clear trend to upgrading to 10GE to support growing traffic needs and deliver superior service, and we are confident that this project will be extended to provide connectivity to other education institutions in Kenya, such as primary and secondary schools,” said Zvi Marom, chief executive, BATM.

The so-tagged KENET, which expands to National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya, is designed to provide a greater range of services to its members, after the 10GE network upgradation.

The main element behind this modification is the management function set named the EdgeGenie Orchestrator management system, which when joined to the cost effective approach minimizes the operational input required by the customer.

The new network has been laid on the Telco Systems T-Metro 8001 10GE service aggregation platforms and T-Marc 3348S 10GE demarcation devices as the foundation, providing KENET with certified CE 2.0 services based on VPLS.

The traditional Layer 3 transport network previously employed by KENET has been substituted by the new carrier Ethernet network deployed by Telco Systems.

This new network provides KENET with greater bandwidth to support more traffic and better serve its education and research institution customers.

The company has also recently revealed that it has completed a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) installation for a major telecoms group in south-east Asia.
