Tejas Networks announced a three-year contract with Vodafone Idea, a leading telecom provider in India.
The partnership involves supplying Tejas Networks’ advanced TJ1400 and TJ1600 packet and optical transmission products to enhance Vodafone Idea’s backhaul capacity and improve network performance across multiple regions.
Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer of Vodafone Idea, said: “Upgrading our backhaul network to be scalable and robust is essential to manage the expected surge in data traffic and bandwidth demands. Tejas Networks’ PTN and OTN products will be instrumental in ensuring a superior service experience for our customers as we transition to VIL 2.0.”

Vodafone Idea’s Capex inched up to INR 14 billion in Q2 fiscal 2025 from INR 8 billion in Q1 fiscal 2025. Vodafone Idea is aiming for a Capex of INR 80 billion in the second-half.
Vi has rolled out 42,000 4G sites during 2Q, which led to an increase in 4G population coverage by 22 million to 1.05 billion by September 2024. Vodafone Idea expects to reach 4G population coverage of 1.1 billion by March 2025 and 1.2 billion by September 2025. Further, Vodafone Idea aims to start rolling out 5G services from 4QFY25.
Vi also plans to embark on a significant capex cycle (INR500-550 billion over the next 2-3 years) to bridge the network gap with main rivals.
