Telecom network operator Swisscom has tapped Telit for its Internet of Things (IoT) business.

Swisscom will utilize Telit IoT Platform, which is designed for mobile network operators, as the core embedded technology for offering its new IoT services and rapid application development.

As per its investment strategy, Swisscom has installed the Cloud-based Platform, powered by deviceWISE, in its data center in Switzerland. The IoT Platform includes all connection, management and integration functions for scalable and secure IoT deployments.

The IoT Platform supplements the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering for Swisscom customers. Swisscom recently launched its Application Cloud for developers. Swisscom aims to help its industrial customers develop solutions that foster efficiency in daily processes, increase customer intimacy and enables business model innovation.

“By 2020, it is expected that over 50 billion objects, machines and devices will be connected to the Internet worldwide, which will enable entirely new business models,” said Sergio Chiandetti, head of Business Process Solutions & Services at Swisscom.

Fred Yentz, president and CEO of Telit IoT Platforms, said: “Swisscom is among the most innovative operators to recognize early the value and convenience of licensing and integrating IoT Application Enablement Platform to offer new IoT services and generate new revenues.”

Telit is expected to ship over 150 million Cloud-ready IoT modules over the next five years, expanding the number of devices that can be easily connected to any deviceWISE IoT platform around the world.

Reliance Communications, an Indian telecom network operator, has recently selected Gemalto for its IoT business.
