Swisscom selects SmartNode 5300 as E-SBC for SMEs

Telecom service provider Swisscom has selected the SmartNode 5300 as the customer-premise enterprise session border controller (E-SBC) for its new Business Connect IP-based phone service for SMEs.

Patton Electronics, the US-based maker of SmartNode VoIP and other networking equipment, said its SmartNode 5300 Enterprise Session Border Router (ESBR) features an auto-provisioning solution that eliminates truck rolls.

Swisscom Business Connect service delivers the cost savings of flat-rate SIP Telephony including free intra-office calling, while integrating a customer’s existing IP PBX with a Swisscom SIP trunk and virtual switchboard.

Daniel Suter, product manager for Swisscom Business Connect, said: “Patton provides a unique combination of valuable capabilities that streamline the installation and turn-up of a Business Connect SIP trunk.”

Utilizing Patton’s cloud-based SmartNode Redirection Service to request, download, and install a customized configuration file for the Swisscom service, the SN5300 automatically activates the SIP trunk when powered up on the customer premise.

SmartNode Split Management Domain protects the Swisscom WAN-facing configuration from any (perhaps inadvertent) subscriber meddling while protecting the customer’s LAN-facing configuration against WAN intrusion.

This apart, the SmartNode installation wizard makes it quick for subscribers to set up the LAN side of the connection.

The Patton E-SBC provides a SIP normalization function that ensures any customer-premise IP PBX or Unified Communications system will interoperate with the provider’s SIP service.
