Sierra Wireless licenses Red Bend vLogix Mobile software for mobile virtualization

Telecom Lead America: Mobile Software Management (MSM)
provider Red Bend Software announced that Sierra Wireless has licensed Red
Bend’s vLogix Mobile software for mobile virtualization for use in its AirPrime
embedded wireless modules.

The agreement enables Sierra Wireless’ customers to
extend their investment in applications written for 2G networks as they upgrade
to 3G network technologies.

The Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile integration into Sierra
Wireless AirPrime 3G modules, machine-to-machine (M2M) application providers
will have access, on a 3G device, to Open AT Application Framework, originally
designed for 2G networks.

Moreover, Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization solution
allows AirPrime customers to reduce costs and time to market by enabling the
reuse of 2G software and applications when migrating to 3G.

The company said the Open AT Application Framework
provides pre-integrated building blocks and tools that make development easier
and less expensive. These tools are field-proven, with a 10-year track record
of success.

Through the collaboration between Sierra Wireless and Red
Bend, customers can focus their time and resources on delivering innovative M2M
applications and capabilities, instead of on integrating hardware components
and rewriting basic software layers.

Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization solution enables us to
simultaneously support two operating environments in our AirPrime SL808x
devices, helping our customers to reduce the cost of transitioning to newer 3G
networks without requiring them to rewrite existing applications designed for
2G,” said Pierre Teyssier, senior vice president of Engineering, M2M Embedded
Solutions for Sierra Wireless.

Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile is the leading Type-1 mobile
hypervisor licensed by more manufacturers to virtualize more commercially
available smartphones and connected devices than all other Mobile
Virtualization products combined.

Customers using Red Bend-Enabled modules from Sierra
Wireless have already experienced the advantages of standards-based over-the-air
software updating and device management. Now, Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization
solution will enable AirPrime customers to bring products to market more
quickly and cost-effectively,” said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software.
