Omnitel deploys Huawei Blade Site base station in Lithuania

Omnitel, a part of TeliaSonera Group, has deployed Huawei Blade Site wireless base station solution for commercial use in Lithuania.

The deployment of Huawei Blade Site solution will support Omnitel in addressing challenges in site acquisition.

The Chinese telecom equipment vendor claims that Huawei Blade Site solution enhances installation efficiency and reducing site deployment time by up to 75 percent.

The solution also supports flexible combinations of Baseband Unit (BBU), Radio Frequency (RF) and power modules, provides Global System for Mobile (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and LTE three-mode concurrent operations, said Huawei.

Mindaugas Varanauskas, chief technology officer, Omnitel, said: “As we continue our 4G network roll-out across Lithuania, the deployment of the Huawei Blade Site solution will accelerate the speed of network construction and reduce operational expenses.”

The deployment of Blade Site solution in Lithuania is the world’s first large-scale commercial use of this solution.

More than 10 telecom operators have tested Huawei’s Blade Site solution. More commercial deployment by leading operators is expected by the end of this year.
