NEC in microwave communications deal with Telenor

Telenor Capex in Q1 2017
Telecom infrastructure major NEC Corporation has signed a global frame agreement with mobile operator Telenor Group to supply microwave communications systems.

The Japanese technology company did not divulge the financial details of the microwave deal with Telenor. The Capex (capital expenditure) of Telenor was NOK 4,533 million in Q1 2017. Telenor’s main investment was in 4G network and fibre in Norway. Telenor also made investment in network densification in Thailand.

NEC will supply microwave communications systems to Telenor Group’s 13 telecom affiliates in Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia.

NEC will provide support from the introduction of NEC’s ultra-compact microwave communications systems, iPASOLINK VR and iPASOLINK EX Advanced, to maintenance services over the next five years.

NEC will provide iPASOLINK to Telenor Pakistan and expand the supply of its microwave products to telecommunications affiliates in other areas.

NEC has the largest share in cumulative shipments for microwave communications systems for Telenor. In 2015, NEC and Telenor signed a global frame agreement on IP routers and optical communications systems. Collectively, NEC can provide the necessary systems for Telenor to build an effective transport network.

“With NEC’s iPASOLINK, Telenor can enhance network connectivity, enabling their customers to experience better, high-quality services,” said Atsuo Kawamura, executive vice president at NEC Corporation.
