Flō Networks Targets Axtel Acquisition to Expand 30,000-Mile Fiber Platform
Flō Networks plans public tender offers to acquire up to 100 percent of Controladora Axtel and Axtel, potentially creating a significantly larger fiber infrastructure operator across Mexico and the Americas. Flō already operates more than 30,000 route miles of fiber across Mexico and the Southwestern United States and provides connectivity spanning 15 countries in the Americas. The proposed acquisition has received preliminary approval from the boards of both Axtel companies but remains subject to Mexican regulatory and competition clearances. Flō says combining the networks would increase scale, reach and capacity while supporting additional investment in network resilience and digital services. The infrastructure serves Fortune 500 enterprises, telecommunications providers and cable operators, making the transaction potentially important for enterprise and wholesale connectivity across the US-Mexico corridor.
Ribbon Adds 400GbE, AI Automation to Critical Communications Network Portfolio
Ribbon Communications expanded its critical-infrastructure networking portfolio with new routers and automation capabilities supporting utility and mission-critical networks. The new NPT 1022M and NPT 2104 platforms combine with Ribbon’s rNOS routing software, optical portfolio and Muse multilayer automation system. The equipment supports legacy 64 kbit/s PCM services alongside modern 100GbE and 400GbE interfaces, enabling operators to migrate from older TDM architectures toward IP/MPLS and segment routing. Capabilities include MPLS-TP, SR-TE, IPoDWDM, synchronization, SCADA connectivity, teleprotection and operational voice. Ribbon says its technology already supports hundreds of thousands of deployed network elements worldwide. Muse adds automation and AI-assisted operations, strengthening Ribbon’s broader strategy around autonomous networks for telecom operators, utilities and other critical-infrastructure providers.
America Movil Reaches 414.5 Million Connections as 5G and Fiber Networks Expand
America Movil ended the second quarter of 2026 with 414.5 million access lines, comprising 334.3 million wireless subscribers and 80.2 million fixed-line revenue-generating units, highlighting the scale of its telecom infrastructure across the Americas. The operator has expanded 5G to 78 cities and towns in Colombia and 20 cities in Ecuador and has agreed to acquire WOW Peru to extend fiber broadband beyond Lima. America Movil operates across more than 25 countries, supporting Claro enterprise services including SD-WAN, cloud connectivity and cross-border communications. Q2 revenue reached approximately $13.8 billion, up 3.1 percent, while service revenue increased 5.1 percent at constant exchange rates. Continued network investment is expanding 5G, fiber and enterprise-connectivity capacity across Latin America and the Caribbean.
