MWC 2026: Ericsson launches Agentic rApp as a Service on AWS to accelerate AI-driven autonomous networks

Ericsson has introduced Agentic rApp as a Service (rApp aaS), a new cloud-based network optimization solution built on Amazon Web Services to help communication service providers modernize operations with Agentic AI and generative AI.

The new platform enables telecom operators to automate network optimization workflows using AI-powered reasoning and coordination. It also introduces a natural language interface that allows engineers to interact with networks conversationally, translating human language into actionable instructions for the AI-driven system.

AI-powered network automation delivered through the cloud

The rApp aaS solution is now available via AWS Marketplace, providing telecom providers with a scalable and flexible deployment model that reduces infrastructure complexity and capital expenditure.

By hosting the solution on AWS global cloud infrastructure, Ericsson aims to help operators accelerate innovation, simplify operations and scale services more efficiently. The company said the new as-a-service model gives CSPs better cost control while supporting their transition toward autonomous networks.

First field testing underway with Vivo Brazil

Field trials of the new platform are already underway with leading global telecom operators. Vivo Brazil is the first service provider to test the solution in real-world conditions.

Elmo Matos, Director of Mobile Network Core and Deployment at Vivo, said the collaboration enables the company to test multiple AI-driven applications focused on improving network capacity and automation across Brazil.

AWS highlighted that the partnership combines Ericsson telecom expertise with its cloud and AI capabilities, allowing operators to consume network automation as an on-demand service while focusing on customer experience and innovation.

Industry analysts highlight market differentiation

Research firm Omdia noted that although many vendors claim to offer rApps, only a few have demonstrated production-level deployments with ORAN-compliant interfaces. The firm added that Ericsson’s rApp-as-a-Service model stands out due to its combination of production readiness and cloud delivery.

The platform connects to the Non-RT RIC within the service management and orchestration framework through the R1 interface defined by the Open RAN Alliance. This enables integration with a broader innovation ecosystem and supports open, standardized telecom architectures.

Massive scale AI network optimization

Ericsson’s AI-based network optimization systems already process more than 100 million AI inferences daily across 11 million cells serving more than 2 billion subscribers worldwide. The company says the new rApp aaS will extend these capabilities with greater flexibility and elasticity while eliminating the need for heavy upfront investment.

MWC 2026 showcase in Barcelona

Ericsson plans to showcase the new platform at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, where the company will demonstrate the capabilities of Agentic AI running on AWS infrastructure. The launch marks a significant step in Ericsson’s strategy to deliver autonomous network solutions through cloud-native platforms, positioning telecom operators to accelerate AI adoption and improve network performance at scale.
