MWC 2014: Vodafone selects NSN, Ericsson for Project Spring

NSN will supply its Single RAN platform, operations support systems and common Subscriber Data Management (SDM) solution to Vodafone as part of its Project Spring deal that aims to modernize and expand network.

Earlier, Ericsson said it signed a deal with Vodafone that aims at improving network quality and provide superior end-user performance. The five-year network transformation contract includes both products and services. Both coverage and capacity will be the main focus of Project Spring.

Ericsson and NSN did not share size of the contract. Both deals are for a period of five years. Both network vendors made the announcement at MWC 2014.

NSN, which is hoping to improve revenue from Project Spring deal, will implement its Single RAN platform based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 base station.

In addition, NSN will upgrade its NetAct network management system to enable monitoring, management and optimization of Vodafone’s network. Support services include network implementation, planning and optimization as well as care services to ensure rapid completion of the network modernization.

Under a separate agreement, NSN will also provide Vodafone with its SDM solution to enable rapid, cost-effective development of future applications and services.
