MobileX Expands Dealer Network with New Partnerships and Mobile Activation Tools

MobileX announced the expansion of its independent dealer network through new partnerships with Orion Mobile, B2B Mobile, Modern Wireless, and AH Prepaid. These partners join existing agents including CTI Wireless, ePay, Unwired, and Universal SIM, strengthening MobileX’s distribution system across the U.S. To support dealers, MobileX introduced new tools including SIM swap functionality for transferring pSIM or eSIM between phones, phone number change options through account verification, and a bilingual dealer care support line. MobileX also launched the “MobileX Army” app, enabling dealers to activate customers from any location. Additional features include international service and high-speed data top-ups, providing flexible plan management.

Alaska Communications Upgrades Northstar Submarine Fiberoptic Cable

Alaska Communications has completed upgrades on the Northstar submarine fiberoptic cable system that connects Alaska to the continental United States by replacing power feed equipment units at Whittier and Lena Point in Alaska and Nedonna Beach in Oregon. These upgrades extend the operational life of the cable and sustain network performance, ensuring broadband capacity for communities and businesses across Alaska. By maintaining and upgrading undersea cable infrastructure, Alaska Communications supports continued service availability for healthcare, education, and commerce. This development highlights how the telecom industry is innovating through modernization of existing infrastructure and extending asset lifecycles to secure connectivity for remote regions.

U Mobile launches Malaysia’s second 5G network

U Mobile activated its 5G service under the Ultra 5G brand, becoming Malaysia’s second wholesale 5G network. The service went live at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and on Penang Bridge 1, with plans to cover 80 percent of populated areas by mid-2026. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission awarded U Mobile the second 5G network contract in November 2024. Huawei and ZTE were selected as equipment suppliers, with Huawei supporting West Malaysia and ZTE covering East Malaysia. U Mobile will expand in-building coverage to 170 locations within one year and 600 locations in four years. As of June 2025, U Mobile had 9.8 million mobile connections and 4.8 million 5G connections, compared with CelcomDigi’s 20.3 million total and 9.2 million 5G, and Maxis’ 11.5 million total and 5.1 million 5G.
