Indus Towers CEO reveals green site achievements

Telecom tower company Indus Towers said the number of green sites has increased 44 percent to 50,461 in 2015-16 from nearly 35,000 in 2013-14.

Indus Towers, a joint venture among Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone, has 1.22 lakh towers across the country.

Indus Towers, revealing its sustainability report, has also lowered the energy consumption in mobile towers by 25-30 percent by converting indoor sites to outdoor.

Indus Towers has significantly reduced carbon emissions, achieving around 10.39 percent reduction in diesel consumption in 2015-16.

The telecom tower company has also converted half of its tower portfolio to outdoor sites to ensure minimal energy consumption.

“We conduct our business with utmost integrity focusing on protecting the environment and being socially responsible. Sustainability thus defines the way we operate and maintain our relationship with our stakeholders,” said Bimal Dayal, CEO of Indus Towers.

Manoj Kumar Singh, chief of sustainability at Indus Towers, said the company has converted more than 50,000 sites to green sites this year and is working towards ensuring minimal energy consumption to achieve its sustainability targets.
