The microwave transmission equipment market experienced a 7 percent increase in 4Q 2024, primarily fueled by rising demand in India and the Middle East/Africa, where wireless technology remains essential for mobile backhaul networks. These regions saw significant adoption of microwave transmission solutions as an alternative to fiber deployment.

“Emerging markets are important for the microwave transmission industry,” Jimmy Yu, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group, said. “It is often these parts of the world where laying fiber is not always the first choice, rather it is the second to wireless technologies such as point-to-point microwave,”

The microwave transmission market has rebounded in 4Q 2024 after a challenging year, with Europe also contributing to growth alongside India and the Middle East/Africa. The respective year-over-year growth rates in these three regions were 145 percent, 9 percent, and 9 percent.

However, despite the fourth-quarter gains, the microwave transmission equipment market dropped by 2 percent for the full year. Dell’Oro Group did not reveal the specific size of the microwave transmission equipment market.

The top six vendors — Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, Ceragon, ZTE, and Aviat — accounted for a combined 85 percent revenue share. Huawei, along with Nokia and ZTE, expanded its market position through organic growth, while Aviat and Ceragon strengthened their presence via acquisitions.

Huawei has secured a dominant position in the Middle East and Africa, holding over 50 percent of the region’s market share, reinforcing its status as a key player in global microwave transmission.

While Ceragon and Ericsson led in India, with Ceragon commanding over half the market, Huawei’s stronghold in other critical regions further underscored its leadership.

As microwave transmission continues to be a preferred solution for network expansion, Huawei’s influence in the industry remains significant, driven by its technological advancements and strategic market positioning.
