MTN and Lynk Global Make Africa’s First Satellite-to-Mobile Call
MTN SA and Lynk Global have completed Africa’s first satellite-to-mobile call in Vryburg, South Africa. The test used a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite to make the call. This is part of MTN’s effort to improve connectivity in rural areas and reach 99 percent broadband coverage in South Africa. LEO satellites help solve connectivity problems by offering better communication with lower delays and are compatible with mobile devices.
