Indian Telecom Operators Expand 5G Network
India’s 5G network now has 469,000 base stations, covering all states and 99.6% of districts. The number of active 5G subscribers has passed 250 million since its launch in 2022.
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are leading the rollout. Jio uses standalone 5G, and Airtel uses non-standalone 5G. Vodafone Idea has started 5G in Mumbai and plans to set up 10,000 5G sites in 2025. BSNL will launch its 5G network in Delhi by 2025.
The goal is to provide more coverage and better connectivity across India.
India’s New Telecom Law to Speed Up 4G and 5G Expansion
India has introduced a new law to speed up the process for telecom operators to get land for building networks. The law reduces the time for land allocation from six months to three months and allows temporary installations for communication.
This will help expand 4G and 5G coverage, especially in rural areas and along roads. It also aims to improve telecom services in remote areas and help restore communication in deoccupied territories.
Exxon Mobil Invests $100 Million in Chip Industry
Exxon Mobil will invest $100 million to upgrade its Baton Rouge plant to produce isopropyl alcohol used in chip manufacturing. The upgrade will be done by 2027 and aims to support U.S. tech companies that are building AI and semiconductor technologies. The plant will focus on U.S. customers to avoid contamination risks during shipping.
Blue Stream Fiber Expands in Cape Coral
Blue Stream Fiber is partnering with the Sandoval community in Cape Coral to offer broadband, TV, and phone services to 1,425 residents. The company is installing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology to provide fast, reliable internet for activities like streaming, gaming, and working from home. The project is set to be finished by April 2026, improving connectivity in the area.
HFCL Introduces Eka Optical Fiber at FTTH Conference 2025
At the FTTH Conference 2025 in Amsterdam, HFCL unveiled its Eka Optical Fiber, developed with European telcos. This fiber is designed to improve internet speeds in rural and urban areas and support 5G networks. It has strong bending resistance and low signal loss, making it ideal for expanding broadband networks across Europe.
