Huawei bags broadband network project from Telkom South Africa

Telecom Lead Africa: Telkom South Africa has selected
Huawei to deploy next-generation ultra-broadband network access.

Huawei’s SingleFAN solution enables the South African
mobile operator to achieve a downlink rate of up to 100 Mbit/s per user, which
enhances its capability to offer products and services such as voice, data, and
IPTV.

Deployment of the countrywide network will involve four
million users.

“This is the largest fixed network modernization
project for Telkom. The close cooperation between Telkom and Huawei highlights
Huawei’s leadership in the access network field and helps promote the
development of the information industry in South Africa,” said Peng Song,
vice president of Huawei South African Region.

Thanks to the Chinese telecom equipment maker, Telkom
plans to migrate its fixed network to a fiber-based ultra-broadband network.
The migration will greatly enhance Telkom’s access bandwidth and will help
address challenges of voice and data services.

Huawei’s FTTx SingleFAN solution is suited to Telkom’s
live network and future service needs. The solution involves telecommunications
equipment upgrades, remote intelligent site construction, line quality
evaluation, and deployment of broadband access equipment based on fiber or
copper.

An integrated COMBO board combines voice and VDSL2
modules on one service port, which will provide voice and high-speed Internet
services (100 Mbit/s) simultaneously. The COMBO board is easy to install, and
the combined installation and commissioning process allows for rapid network
deployment.

Huawei claims that it is a market-leader in the fixed
network field with Huawei’s SingleFAN solution providing ultra-broadband access
services to more than one third of broadband users worldwide.
