Ericsson has announced an overhaul of its global operating structure and Executive Team, designed to streamline R&D capabilities, reduce operational costs, and align infrastructure deployment with emerging technologies like AI agents and differentiated connectivity.

The operational reshuffle, set to take effect on January 1, 2027, includes consolidating regional divisions and completely dismantling its dedicated Enterprise Wireless business unit.
Ericsson Merges Regional Divisions to Create Unified Market Area APAC
In a major consolidation move, Ericsson is merging its North East Asia and South East Asia, Oceania and India divisions into a single, unified unit called Market Area Asia-Pacific (APAC).
The Strategy: The merger aims to drive operational efficiency across the fast-growing Asian telecommunications corridors while maintaining highly localized, country-level client execution.
Leadership Transition: Patrick Johansson, the current Head of Market Area Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), will step up to lead the newly created APAC unit. Ericsson is launching an active recruitment drive to replace his seat in the EMEA market.
Outgoing Executives: Chafic Nassif (Head of North East Asia) and Andres Vicente (Head of South East Asia, Oceania and India) will manage the transitional phase before stepping down from their current executive responsibilities on December 31, 2026.
“With the changes announced, the Executive team will be leaner and more balanced in terms of responsibilities… The creation of the APAC market area will also enable us to operate more effectively whilst staying close to customers at country level,” Per Narvinger, Ericsson President and CEO, said.
Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS) Dismantled for R&D Scale
To eliminate fragmented operations and build stronger R&D synergies, Ericsson is breaking up the portfolio of its Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS) and shifting those capabilities directly into its massive mainstream network and regional brackets.
The redistributed portfolio will operate under the following structural adjustments:
Indoor Tech Integration: Neutral Host solutions and Ericsson Private 5G will move directly into Business Area Networks, centralizing all high-performance indoor hardware and enterprise site systems.
Wireless WAN Alignment: The Wireless WAN solutions segment will pivot into a standalone business unit reporting to Yossi Cohen, Head of Market Area Americas, enabling closer access to crucial North American enterprise accounts.
Executive Departure: Åsa Tamsons, Head of BEWS, will oversee the cross-department integration of the enterprise portfolio before officially stepping down from her role on December 31, 2026.
Focusing Infrastructure on AI Agents and Differentiated Connectivity
Ericsson’s restructuring underlines a market reality facing telecom network operators: the rapid rise of enterprise next-generation software demands deeply integrated, high-capacity infrastructure.
By scaling its internal R&D footprint and balancing executive weight, Ericsson is ensuring its indoor cellular footprints and private 5G options can handle intensive enterprise loads like on-device AI agents, automated robotics, and strict low-latency slices required by modern communication service providers (CSPs).
