Ericsson appoints Paolo Colella as India head

Ericsson has appointed Paolo Colella as new head of Region India.

Colella (in pix) succeeds Chris Houghton, who will assume the role of head of Region North East Asia. Chris Houghton worked for Ericsson India for two years. He was instrumental in improving Ericsson India’s revenue growth in the country. Ericsson also added LTE clients during his tenure.

“Chris has managed Ericsson’s operations in India during his two years in the country and enabled our operations in the region to grow into the largest employee base for Ericsson in the world,” said Ericsson President and CEO Hans Vestberg.

“Paolo takes over from Chris at a time when Ericsson in India is well poised for growth, and the team in India is fully geared to leverage the new market opportunities and contribute to the growth of the Indian telecom sector,” said Vestberg.

Colella, who will become the head of Ericsson India on September 1, 2015, has been responsible for Ericsson’s Consulting & Systems Integration business globally for around six years.

Prior to this role, he worked as executive vice president Sales and Marketing at Ericsson United Kingdom (UK), responsible for managing both telecom and non-telecom customers in the country.

Ericsson says it leads in mobile broadband technologies, managed services and OSS/BSS in India. Ericsson has more than 21,000 resources in India and offices across 38 locations. The company also has a manufacturing unit, a global services organization and R&D facilities located in various parts of India.

Ericsson said Chris Houghton, the new head of Region North East Asia, will report to Mats H Olsson, chairman of Region North East Asia and senior vice president Asia-Pacific. Houghton will be responsible for Ericsson’s operations in Region North East Asia, covering the markets of Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

Houghton succeeds Jan Signell, who has decided to leave Ericsson to pursue opportunities outside the company.

Prior to being appointed head of Region India in June 2013, Houghton was head of Customer Unit UK and Ireland and managing director of Ericsson UK, responsible for Ericsson’s business in the UK and Ireland. He has worked for Ericsson for 27 years, and prior to relocating to the UK he held senior positions in Hungary, Japan and Sweden.
