Ericsson and Akamai accelerate Telkomsel’s mobile content delivery

By Telecom Lead Team: Ericsson,
in partnership with Akamai, is accelerating the mobile content delivery at Indonesia’s
Telkomsel thanks to the joint Mobile Cloud Accelerator derived from the
partnership between Ericsson and Akamai.

Both companies announced their partnership at last year’s
Mobile World Congress. This year, the companies have demonstrated the success
of this partnership with the Mobile Cloud Accelerator, which significantly reduces
the time it takes for web pages to load on mobile devices. Telkomsel is the
first live network to deploy the solution.

MCA provides
operators with a means of monetizing over-the-top (OTT) traffic, and content
providers with a way of improving quality of experience, conversion rates and
brand perception. Content providers, including Thomson Reuters, have shown
great interest in MCA since quality of experience is a decisive factor for
their businesses.

“The Mobile Cloud Accelerator is a unique solution
addressing end-to-end quality of experience for mobile content delivery across
the internet and mobile networks,” said Sam Saba, president of Ericsson
Indonesia.  We’re pleased to work with
Telkomsel, the first operator to deploy MCA, and we are now continuing roll-out
of the service.”

Telkomsel is offering the service to select users. Using
MCA, page load times have been reduced by as much as 70 percent – thereby
providing a better and more consistent user experience. It also provides
operators with a means of monetizing over-the-top (OTT) traffic, and content
providers with a way of improving quality of experience, conversion rates and
brand perception.

 Ericsson is
demonstrating MCA at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The company also announced its Smartphone Network Optimization package for
operators. The package allows them to plan for smartphone introduction and
network expansion to achieve a network design and evolution that provides the
best possible network performance – while maintaining cost efficiency.
