Emulex leads 10 Gbps Ethernet market

The 10 Gbps Ethernet Controller and Adapter market was bolstered by sales of Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)-capable products which resulted in changes in the vendor landscape, according to Dell’Oro Group.

Emulex leads the 10 Gbps Ethernet market in terms of port shipments.  QLogic moved from 4th position to 3rd, while Cisco moved from 5th position to 4th in terms of revenues in 2Q11 versus 1Q11.

“Every gain in market share ranking this quarter was correlated with an increase in FCoE business,” said Sameh Boujelbene, analyst covering Controllers and Adapters at Dell’Oro Group.

FCoE shipments have been growing at a faster rate than 10 Gbps Ethernet, comprising a higher portion of the total 10 Gbps Controller and Adapter market. Nevertheless, we calculate less than 40 percent of the FCoE-capable controllers and adapters are actually deployed to run FCoE traffic.
