Fiber Fast Lane: Ezee Fiber Brings Multi-Gig Connectivity to More Illinois Communities

Ezee Fiber is expanding its fiber-optic network across six Illinois communities—Streamwood, Roselle, Downers Grove, Naperville, Oak Brook, and Bartlett—bringing multi-gig internet access to thousands of additional homes and businesses. The move is part of the company’s previously announced $400 million investment in the Chicagoland region and aims to support growing connectivity demands and local economic development. Ezee Fiber said residents will have access to internet plans starting at 2 Gbps, with options reaching up to 8 Gbps. To coincide with the expansion, the company hosted a VIP Day event for local officials, media, and community leaders, highlighting its construction practices, permitting compliance, property restoration standards, and customer installation processes to build transparency and community trust during the network rollout.

Spain Orders Telecom Networks to Stay Online During Blackouts in Major Resilience Push

Spain will require telecom operators to maintain at least four hours of mobile network coverage during power outages under a new decree expected before the end of 2026. The measure follows the major blackout that disrupted communications across Spain and Portugal in April 2025, exposing vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure. Under the plan, coverage requirements will be phased in over three years, reaching 75 percent of the population by the third year. The rules will apply to major telecom operators and digital infrastructure providers, including data centres, satellite systems and submarine cable operators. The decree also mandates stronger resilience standards for network control centres and emergency call facilities, aiming to improve communications reliability during national emergencies and large-scale power disruptions.

India’s Telecom Rulebook Rewritten: AI Fraud Detection and Satellite Networks Take Center Stage

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a new authorisation-based telecom regime, replacing multiple legacy licences with a streamlined framework designed to simplify compliance and accelerate innovation. The new rules require telecom operators to deploy artificial intelligence and big data analytics for fraud detection, alongside anti-spoofing measures to strengthen network security. Authorisations can be granted for up to 20 years, enabling easier market entry for new and specialised operators, including virtual network providers. The framework also brings satellite networks, earth stations and VSAT services under a clearer regulatory structure, supporting connectivity in remote regions. Additional provisions mandate data localisation, security safeguards and single-window approvals, marking a major modernization of India’s telecom regulatory landscape.
