Ciena revenues up 17 percent to $692 million in Q4

Telecom network vendor Ciena Corporation said its revenues rose 17.08 percent to $692 million for its fiscal fourth quarter ended October 31, 2015.

Ciena revenue grew 4.34 percent to $2.4 billion in fiscal year 2015.

Ciena’s net loss for the fiscal fourth quarter 2015 was $13.8 million against a net loss of $30.7 million in the same period last year.

Ciena posted net income of $11.7 million in fiscal 2015 as compared with a net loss of $40.6 million for fiscal year 2014.

Gary Smith, president and CEO of Ciena, said: “We believe that our proven ability to drive operating leverage from the business, when combined with strong market drivers from the next phase of network transformation, positions us well to deliver continued growth and profitability in fiscal 2016 and beyond.”

Ciena generated 70 percent revenue from Converged Packet Optical, 9.2 percent from Packet Networking, 2.4 percent from Optical Transport and 18.4 percent from Software and Services business. 69.4 percent of Ciena revenue came from North America, 13.6 percent from Europe, Middle East and Africa, 6.6 percent from Caribbean and Latin America and 10.4 percent from Asia Pacific.

Ciena says non-U.S. customers contributed 34.5 percent of total revenue. Two 10 percent-plus customer represented 29.6 percent of revenue.

Ciena said $84.4 million revenue came from the acquired Cyan business, principally relating to Z-Series Packet-Optical Platform.
