MediaTek Unveils T300 Platform Applications for IoT at MWC 2024

MediaTek — at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 – has made a significant announcement, introducing its addition to the 5G RedCap portfolio.
MediaTek T300 5G RedCap Platform for IoTThe MediaTek T300 platform designed for IoT applications marks a substantial leap forward in the IoT technology, leveraging MediaTek’s M60 modem to support the 3GPP Release-17 standard, promising remarkable advancements over existing 4G IoT solutions.

The MediaTek T300 platform boasts a 5G RedCap RF-system-on-chip (SoC) architecture, featuring a simplified and reliable antenna design with integrated RF capabilities. This integration aims to enhance battery life in 5G devices while streamlining development processes and reducing associated costs.

Notably, the M60 modem, a core component of the T300 platform, is engineered to slash power consumption by up to 60 percent compared to LTE Cat-4 alternatives and up to 70 percent compared to current 5G eMMB solutions. Such efficiency gains pave the way for improved energy sustainability, particularly in large-scale device deployments across various sectors such as Industrial IoT (IIoT), mobile markets, security systems, logistics operations, and IoT edge devices.

JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, emphasized the strategic significance of the T300 platform, stating, “MediaTek’s leadership in the 5G industry and power savings expertise will help brands capitalize on the massive market opportunity with 5G RedCap.”

The MediaTek T300 platform achieves downlink/uplink peak rates of up to 227/122 Mbps, thereby delivering the transformative capabilities of 5G to power-constrained IoT devices.

The platform’s adherence to the 3GPP Release-17 standard entails energy efficiency enhancements, including paging early indication, UE subgrouping, transmission range switch (TRS) while idle, PDCCH monitoring adaptation, and radio link monitoring (RLM) while active. Additionally, the integration of an 800 MHz CPU ensures high responsiveness when the SoC is activated.

Key features of the T300 platform include MediaTek’s UltraSave 4.0 technology, enabling significant reductions in power consumption, support for 5G NSA and 5G SA to facilitate seamless network transitions, compatibility with LTE & NR-FR1 (20MHz), improved reliability with support for up to 256 QAM DL/UL, and 1T2R MIMO / 1CC support for low-latency connections. Moreover, the platform offers dual SIM single active (DSSA) and network slicing capabilities, essential for supporting a wide array of IoT applications.

MediaTek has initiated collaborations with prominent infrastructure and operator partners to enable connections to 5G SA networks. Through these partnerships, MediaTek is conducting VoNR calls and data transmissions, showcasing the prowess and versatility of the MediaTek T300 platform in real-world scenarios.
