MediaTek announces Super-Slow Motion and 120Hz display technologies

Smartphone chip vendor MediaTek announced two new technologies — Super-Slow Motion and 120Hz display technology — for mobile devices.

MediaTek has joined hands with Japan Display to unveil the latest technology that enables 120Hz display on mobile devices to better mobile experience.

Super-Slow Motion Technology, a smartphone camera feature currently available in MT6595- and MT6795-powered devices, enables smartphones to create 480 frames per second (fps) 1080p Full HD videos and playback at 1/16 speed, said MediaTek in a statement.

The company said the Super-Slow Motion Technology controls several subsystems that work in concert, beginning with the Sony IMX220, 20.7MP sensor, which is used to capture the videos. The captured high fps videos are then passed through MediaTek’s advanced image processing pipeline, ensuring that each processed frame is of premium quality while displaying the image in excellent clarity and detail.

Targeting the Android 64-bit market, MediaTek recently announced MT6795, the 64-bit True Octa-core LTE smartphone System on Chip (SoC) with the world’s first 2K display support. With the global launch of MT6795, MediaTek is accelerating the transition to the rapidly growing LTE 4G market, which is dominated by Qualcomm at present.
