Apple Q4 result shows double-digit growth in emerging markets

Apple, in its Q4 2024 financial result, said it achieved double-digit growth in sales in many emerging markets such as Mexico, Brazil, the Middle East, India, and South Asia.

Apple’s India revenue during the July-September quarter was a record for the iPhone maker. Apple does not reveal the specific number of iPhones sold in India. Apple has generated total revenue of $7.383 billion ($6.331 billion) from Asia Pacific that includes India and excludes China and Japan.

Apple’s iPhone production, notably in India, has significantly reduced lead times, streamlining pre-order fulfillment and stimulating local demand through competitive pricing, Canalys Analyst Le Xuan Chiew said in a note earlier.

Supplementary production of previous-generation iPhones, such as the iPhone 13 and 15, in India has bolstered Apple’s operator channel shipments into the US and Europe, enabling it to reclaim market share in the mid-range segment and capitalize on replacement demand.

The main market for Apple is America with revenue of $41.664 billion ($40.115 billion). Apple has generated revenue of $24.924 billion ($22,463 billion) in Europe, $15.033 billion ($15.084 billion) in China and $5.926 billion ($5.505 billion) in Japan. Total revenue of Apple has reached $94.93 billion ($89.498 billion) during the September-quarter.

The sale of iPhones has contributed revenue of $46.222 billion ($43.805 billion) to Apple. Canalys Analyst Le Xuan Chiew estimates that Apple has shipped 54.5 million iPhones during the September-quarter.  Apple has increased its smartphone share to 18 percent from 17 percent driven by the iPhone 16 series’ strong debut in emerging markets from narrower hardware gaps between base and Pro models.

Revenue of $7.744 billion ($7.614 billion) came from Mac. Apple has added $6.95 billion ($6.443 billion) from iPad business. Revenue from Apple Wearables, Home and Accessories was $9.042 billion ($9,322 billion). Apple added $24.972 billion ($22.314 billion) from Services.

CONCERNS

Apple faces several concerns as it heads into its first fiscal quarter. First, a decline in fourth-quarter sales in China has worried some analysts, even as Apple projects a low to mid-single-digit revenue growth during the upcoming quarter.

This modest growth expectation, outlined by Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri, has raised questions about potential slowdowns in hardware sales. Although Apple’s services division is anticipated to see double-digit growth, analysts have expressed concerns about whether this can offset potential hardware revenue declines, Reuters news report said.

The fourth quarter, ending September 28, only included a few days of iPhone 16 sales. Still, CEO Tim Cook noted that early sales of the iPhone 16 have outpaced the iPhone 15’s comparable period a year earlier.

The company’s artificial intelligence (AI) push, embedded within new iPhone models as “Apple Intelligence,” also brings concerns. Despite strong initial uptake of the new operating system with Apple Intelligence, some features have experienced delays. Success in AI may depend on sales of new iPhones, which offer exclusive compatibility with the latest features due to their advanced chips.
