5G Takes Flight: Telia and Kelluu Use Airships to Bring High-Speed Connectivity to Remote Arctic Regions
Telia and Kelluu have demonstrated an innovative airborne 5G solution using autonomous hydrogen-powered airships to deliver mobile connectivity in remote areas lacking traditional network infrastructure. During a defense technology event in Lapland, a Nokia Kolibri small-cell base station was mounted on one of Kelluu’s airships and connected to Telia’s core network through satellite backhaul using the 3.5 GHz spectrum. The deployment showed how mission-critical 5G services can be rapidly established even in harsh Arctic environments where mountains and forests limit terrestrial coverage. The solution also enables standard smartphones, drones, autonomous vehicles, and IoT sensors to access secure high-speed connectivity without requiring specialized satellite-enabled devices.
HFCL Secures ₹184 Crore Export Boost as Global Demand for Fiber Connectivity Surges
HFCL has won export orders worth nearly USD 19.32 million (around INR 183.95 crore) from international customers for the supply of Optical Fiber Cables (OFC), reinforcing its growing global telecom infrastructure presence. The company received two separate contracts valued at USD 11.43 million and USD 7.89 million, respectively, with execution scheduled by August 2026. The orders cover manufacturing and supply of OFC products tailored to customer requirements and reflect rising international demand for high-speed fiber connectivity solutions. HFCL said the deals strengthen customer confidence in its manufacturing scale, technology expertise, and product quality, while further expanding the company’s footprint in international telecom markets.
MagtiCom Chooses Mavenir to Supercharge Georgia’s Nationwide 5G Small Cell Rollout
Mavenir has been selected by MagtiCom as the strategic partner for a nationwide small cell deployment project in Georgia. The collaboration will see Mavenir provide its complete portfolio of 4G and 5G small cell solutions, including hardware, software, management, and orchestration platforms. The decision follows a successful trial conducted earlier in 2026, reinforcing Mavenir’s role in supporting next-generation mobile network expansion. Deployment is scheduled to begin in Q2 2026 with beta testing for residential, small office, and enterprise users before a broader nationwide rollout. MagtiCom, serving over 3 million customers, continues to strengthen its leadership in digital connectivity and recently ranked sixth globally for 5G mobile internet speeds in Ookla testing.
