Dua Lipa Sues Samsung Electronics Over Alleged Unauthorized Use of Image on TV Packaging

British pop sensation Dua Lipa has filed a major lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, accusing the technology giant of using her image without permission to market its television products. The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court, seeks at least $15 million in damages for alleged copyright infringement, trademark violations, and misuse of publicity rights.

According to court filings, Samsung allegedly displayed a copyrighted image of the Grammy-winning singer on the front of cardboard packaging boxes used for retail television sales. The image in question, titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” is reportedly owned entirely by the singer, including all associated intellectual property rights.

The lawsuit claims Samsung benefited commercially from the unauthorized use of Dua Lipa’s image by creating the impression that the global pop star endorsed the company’s television products. Lawyers representing the “Levitating” singer argued that the placement of her photograph on product packaging influenced consumer purchasing decisions and strengthened Samsung’s marketing appeal.

Legal filings included screenshots of social media posts and online comments from fans reacting to the packaging. One comment cited in the complaint stated that a customer would purchase the television “just because Dua is on it,” highlighting the alleged commercial advantage Samsung gained from the singer’s celebrity status.

In addition to copyright and trademark infringement claims, the lawsuit accuses Samsung of violating Dua Lipa’s publicity rights by using her likeness without authorization. Her legal team stated that the unauthorized promotion has damaged her brand identity and commercial goodwill by misleading consumers into believing she officially endorsed Samsung televisions.

The filing further alleges that Dua Lipa became aware of the issue in June 2025 and formally demanded that Samsung stop using her image. However, according to the complaint, the company allegedly continued using the packaging despite repeated requests to cease the activity, Reuters news report said.

A spokesperson for Samsung Electronics declined to comment on the ongoing litigation, citing company policy regarding pending legal matters. Representatives for Dua Lipa have not publicly commented beyond the court filing.

British-Albanian pop superstar Dua Lipa has emerged as one of the world’s most influential music artists, with massive achievements across streaming, social media, awards, touring, and brand partnerships.

Dua Lipa’s net worth reached around £115 million ($145 million) in 2025, driven by album sales, global tours, streaming revenue, endorsements, acting projects, and business ventures such as her Service95 media platform.

On social media, Dua Lipa remains among the world’s most-followed musicians. As of May 2026, she has approximately 87.4 million Instagram followers, placing her among the top global celebrities on the platform.

Her music streaming numbers are equally impressive. Dua Lipa previously held the Guinness World Record for the highest monthly Spotify listeners for a female artist and has earned nine Spotify plaques for songs surpassing one billion streams.

The singer has won numerous international awards during her career, including:

3 Grammy Awards

7 Brit Awards

2 MTV Europe Music Awards

2 American Music Awards

Multiple Billboard and iHeartRadio Music Awards

Her breakthrough album, Future Nostalgia, became one of the defining pop albums of the decade, while songs such as “Levitating,” “New Rules,” and “Don’t Start Now” generated billions of streams globally. “Levitating” also became one of the biggest songs on the Billboard charts in recent years.

Dua Lipa’s commercial success extends beyond music. She has collaborated with major luxury and lifestyle brands including Porsche, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent. She also expanded into film with appearances in Barbie and Argylle.

In 2024, TIME magazine included Dua Lipa in its prestigious TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people. Billboard also ranked her among the top female artists of the 21st century.

From chart-topping albums and sold-out global tours to record-breaking streaming figures and high-profile brand partnerships, Dua Lipa has built one of the strongest entertainment brands in the global music industry.
