MWC 2014: Ericsson adds mobile unified communication for telecoms

At the Mobile World Congress 2014, Ericsson will announce mobile unified communication for telecom operators.

Ericsson’s Mobile Unified Communication will enable operators to deliver standards-based, operator-branded Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS). Enterprise users will enjoy a seamless and consistent user experience across networks, while securely accessing enterprise services from any mobile device.

It delivers high-value mobile enterprise applications over mobile broadband and supports industry movement toward cloud-based enterprise applications and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), said Ericsson in a statement.

Recently, HIS said wireless network connections in industrial automation components in global factories will rise from 2.1 million in 2012 to 3.4 million by 2017. This increase magnifies risk factors to manufacturing environments.

“The rising use of wireless networks and industrial Ethernet is leading to a growing trend in the so-called bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement in the manufacturing business, with workers utilizing their own smartphones and tablets to monitor and control industrial equipment,” said Mark Watson, associate director, industrial automation group at IHS.

Ericsson says the launch is part of its mobile enterprise strategy that delivers integrated cloud, connectivity and communications as-a-service via operators.

Ericsson Mobile UC solves the challenges facing CIOs, replacing a complex ICT infrastructure with a simplified network, managed to the operator’s carrier-class standards.
