Globe Telecom’s mobile browsing biz grows 55% to P3.1 billion in 2012

Telecom Lead Asia: Globe Telecom says its mobile browsing revenue has increased 55 percent to P3.1 billion in 2012.

Increased smartphone penetration and growing popularity of internet access via the mobile phone fueled the growth.

The growth figured prominently in steering 67 percent increase in other mobile data revenues, growing from P4.3 billion the previous year to P7.2 billion in 2012.

Jenny Granada-Echevarria, head of Mobile Data Services, Globe Telecom, said: “We are happy to see how our mobile browsing segment has grown in 2012 driven by the strong take-up of our offers that allow subscribers to maximize use of their smartphones beyond call and text.”

In 2012, Globe had unveiled mobile internet bundles that provide Globe Prepaid and TM subscribers a day of unlimited access to various social networking sites on their mobile phones for P20.

For instance, SOCIAL20 gives users access to Facebook, Multiply, and Twitter; FUN20 gives users access to Facebook and YouTube; while MAIL20 gives users access to Facebook, Yahoo! Mail and GMail.

In association with internet giant Google, Globe also became the world’s first telecom operator to offer free data access to the world wide web and select Google services via Free Zone powered by Google.
