Essar Group deploys Cisco unified computing system

Telecom Lead India: Essar has deployed Cisco Unified
Computing System to support the SAP HANA (High Performance Analytic Appliance)
implementation.

Essar is planning to roll out SAP HANA across the
organization in phases over the next 12 to 18 months.

SAP solutions combined with the Cisco UCS provide
significant value through standards-based, high-performance unified fabric,
improved memory capacity, reduced power consumption and lower total cost of
ownership.

HANA is optimized on the Cisco UCS platform.

HANA, along with SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions,
enables innovative new applications, and combines high-volume transactions with
analytics.

We expect in-memory computing to be a game-changer and
were looking for a server platform designed to achieve high availability and
performance.  The Cisco Unified Computing System, which is based on
industry standards, has met our expectations and we believe that it serves as
an ideal server platform for enterprise-critical applications like SAP
HANA. With Cisco UCS, we are confident of achieving our ROI from our
investment in SAP software,” said N Jayantha Prabhu, chief technology officer,
Essar Group.

By utilizing the Cisco UCS platform, Essar enjoys access
to data/information – without the delay of typical enterprise data warehouses.

The Cisco UCS platform is designed to offer stateless
computing capabilities with dynamic server provisioning, unified fabric, and
comprehensive management across both physical and virtual environments for
reduced total cost of ownership.

Cisco said the simplified design of the Cisco UCS Servers
improves airflow efficiency and can reduce the number of components that need
to be powered and cooled by more than 50 percent compared to traditional blade
server environments.

This win is further validation that Cisco UCS provides
the preferred platform for an SAP HANA deployment. We value the trust that
Essar has shown in us and are confident to deliver on their expectations. SAP
HANA optimized on Cisco UCS, enables faster decision making and is fast
becoming the platform of choice for deployment by a number of large
enterprises, specifically in telecom, manufacturing, BFSI, IT/ITeS and energy
verticals,” said Avinash Purwar, senior vice president, Cisco India and SAARC.
