CAT Telecom of Thailand taps IBM for cloud computing services

Telecom Lead Asia: CAT Telecom, the government-owned mobile service provider in Thailand, has tapped IBM for offering cloud computing services.

Technology major IBM will be the preferred technology service provider to help manage cloud systems, delivering innovative cloud computing services for CAT.

CAT believes that its association with IBM will enable the operator to provide IT services on secure cloud-based infrastructure to its clients. These services will help reduce costs and increase productivity for the telecom giant.

The telecom company has adopted IBM SmartCloud infrastructure to offer cloud services to both private and government enterprises. IBM will also provide cloud infrastructure management services to CAT for the next four years in Thailand.

Thailand is Asia Pacific’s ninth largest mobile market, with a penetration rate of 122 percent at the end of 2012. Growth has been achieved through a combination of low prices and high quality telecom services.

Through IBM SmartCloud Managed Service, CAT will be able to offer unique cloud services superior to other providers. Customers will benefit from CAT’s reliable, secure and responsive infrastructure through pay-per-use models, with IT resources that can be scaled to accommodate business growth.

Kitisak Sriprasert, President of CAT Telecom, said: “CAT has been chosen to provide a government cloud together with the Electronic Government Agency. This is in support of CAT achieving its objective to serve both public and private sectors effectively.”

CAT will leverage IBM’s technologies to deliver cost-effective cloud services while reducing power consumption and improving performance through server and storage consolidation and virtualization.

Parnsiree Amatayakul, managing director, IBM Thailand, said: “We are ready to help our customers to provide cloud computing services in vertical markets with end-to-end services from IBM – from planning, deployment, testing to technical and business consulting services delivered by highly qualified professionals.”
