Telecom network operator Idea Cellular today said it will have 1,300 3G sites in Kolkata metro by the end of the current fiscal.
In addition, the Aditya Birla group company will have 7,400 2G cell sites in the West Bengal state.
The telecom operator has also increased the number of Idea service centers in the state to more than 250.
Idea Cellular says its own 3G services in Kolkata metro on 2100 MHz spectrum band will provide better customer experience. Earlier, Idea Cellular announced 3G network in Delhi metro.
With this, Idea Cellular’s 3G network has expanded to 13 major markets in India, covering 79 percent of Idea’s revenue and 60 percent of industry revenue. Additionally, Idea offers 3G services through ICR arrangements with other telecom operators in 9 circles.
“Idea’s continuous investment in spectrum acquisition, network infrastructure, and brand building in the Eastern market is a testimony to our commitment to the region,” said Lakshminarayana, chief operating officer – Corporate, Idea Cellular.
Anish Roy, chief operating officer – East, Idea Cellular, said that the telecom network operator has nearly 20 lakh customers in Kolkata with approximately 20 percent being data users.
Idea Cellular has registered the highest growth in Revenue Market Share (RMS), in Kolkata and Rest of Bengal, in Q2 FY 2016, according to TRAI.
