Reliance Jio Infocomm has 123.36 million 4G subscribers at the end of June 2017, but 25 percent is not active, according to the latest statistics published by TRAI.
For comparison, Idea Cellular has 101.37 percent active wireless subscribers and Airtel has 96.57 percent active subscribers on their networks.
“Out of the 1,186.84 million wireless subscribers in India, 1,022.75 million subscribers were active on the date of peak VLR in June 2017. The proportion of active wireless subscribers was approximately 86.17 percent of the total wireless subscriber base,” said TRAI.
Wireless grows
TRAI said India’s wireless subscriber base increased to 1,186.84 million (+0.51 percent) in June 2017 as compared with the previous month.
India’s wireless subscription in urban areas increased to 680.66 million (+0.59 percent) and wireless subscription in rural areas increased to 506.18 million (+0.40 percent).
Wireless tele-density increased to 92.12 with urban wireless tele-density growing from 167.24 in May to 167.97 in June, and rural wireless tele-density increasing from 57.12 to 57.31. The share of urban and rural wireless subscribers in total number of wireless subscribers was 57.35 percent and 42.65 percent respectively.
Broadband
The number of broadband subscribers increased to 300.84 million — 18.33 million wired subscribers, 281.99 million mobile Internet and 0.52 million fixed wireless users — with a monthly growth rate of 3.17 percent in June.
Reliance Jio Infocomm with 123.36 million, Bharti Airtel with 55.34 million, Vodafone with 41.14 million, Idea Cellular with 26.37 million and BSNL with 21.76 million are part of the top 5 broadband operators’ list in India in the month of June 2017.
BSNL with 9.73 million, Bharti Airtel with 2.1 million, Atria Convergence with 1.22 million, MTNL with 0.98 million and YOU Broadband with 0.65 million are the top five wireline broadband operators in the country, TRAI said.
Top five wireless broadband service providers are Reliance Jio Infocomm with 123.36 million users, Bharti Airtel with 53.25 million, Vodafone with 41.13 million, Idea Cellular with 26.37 million and Reliance Communications with 13.54 million users.
