How Airtel India performed in mobile data business in Q3

Airtel 3G and 4GThe performance of telecom network operator Bharti Airtel in India was outstanding in the third quarter of fiscal 2015-16.

Airtel India added 3.8 million data customers in Q3 thanks to its 3G and 4G focus.

Airtel India had 54.9 million data customers or 22.5 percent of total customers. The growth in the number of Airtel data customers was 29.9 percent. Earlier, Airtel data customers represented 19.5 percent of total customers in Q3 fiscal 2014-15.

Airtel customers used 133.9 billion MBs (+73.3 percent).

Mobile data usage per customer increased 35.5 percent to 843 MBs during the third quarter, said Airtel.

Data ARPU of Airtel increased 17.7 percent to Rs 200 (Rs 170).

Airtel India investment

Airtel India’s Capex (capital expenditure) of Rs 3,284.9 crore in mobile business was mainly utilized for data capabilities. Capex of Airtel India in its Telemedia business was Rs 290.4 crore.

Airtel has increased the number of telecom sites to 151,172 sites from 142,898 in the corresponding quarter last year.

51.3 percent of its total telecom sites are 3G sites.

The number of 3G sites of Airtel has increased to 77,551 in Q3 fiscal 2016 from 62,447 in Q2 fiscal 2016 and 41,850 in Q3 fiscal 2015.

Airtel mobile data

Bharti Airtel says revenue from mobile services rose 6.2 percent to Rs 13,975 crore.

Airtel revenue from mobile data accounted for 23.1 percent of the total mobile revenue against to 16.2 percent.

Mobile data revenue of Airtel India grew 50.6 percent to Rs 31839 crore.

Airtel broadband

Airtel Telemedia operation was available in 87 cities with 3.6 million users. Airtel had 1.7 million broadband (DSL) customers, representing 48.1 percent of the total Telemedia customers.

Airtel broadband business added 93,000 DSL customers.
