Latest news and highlights from Cable Show 2013

Telecom Lead @ Cable Show 2013: ARRIS Group is showcasing its portfolio of solutions for service providers at The Cable Show 2013.

After the acquisition of Motorola Home two months ago, ARRIS has unveiled its solutions that directly address major industry trends in multiscreen, the IP transformation, the connected home, and the personalized user experience.

Bob Stanzione, CEO, ARRIS, said: “At The Cable Show this week, ARRIS is exhibiting the full scope of our newly combined solutions—in the network, cloud, and home—to a global audience of service providers and programmers.”

Time Warner Cable said it launched the first phase of its Wi-Fi network build out in September 2011 and has grown the network to cover areas throughout Southern California, including popular beaches, downtowns, shopping districts and visitor destinations.

Its Wi-Fi network spans more than 300 miles of Southern California, offering more than 12,000 hotspots available at no cost to Time Warner Cable customers with Standard Internet or above, and on a pay-as-you-go-basis to non-subscribers.

In addition to Time Warner Cable’s extensive WiFi network in Southern California, TWC Wi-Fi deployment is underway in Austin, Kansas City, Hawaii, Charlotte and New York City. Time Warner Cable Internet customers also have access to the nation’s largest free Wi-Fi Hotspot network, with over 100,000 hotspots, through the Cable Wi-Fi network.

Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks announced their combined Wi-Fi network has exceeded more than 150,000 hotspots in major cities.

The network, which has tripled in size since first announced last year, enables high-speed Internet customers from one company to access hotspots operated by their and other service providers.

Comcast on Monday said it plans to create millions of Wi-Fi access points for its customers through a neighborhood hotspot initiative. Comcast is beginning to give its Xfinity Internet customers an additional xfinitywifi signal (or SSID) in their home that is completely separate and distinct from the family’s private and secure home Wi-Fi signal.

Offered at no additional cost to Xfinity Internet residential customers, the additional Wi-Fi hotspots will enable friends, relatives, visitors and other Xfinity Internet customers instant, easy access to fast and reliable Wi-Fi.
