Cisco 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) used for future live sports demo for TV Globo

Cisco and TV Globo, a television network operator in Brazil, created 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) internal demo during the World Cup.

The demo was aimed at showcasing future live sports experiences to Globo executives.

Cisco utilized its 4K/Ultra HD and Cisco Videoscape to showcase the program to TV Globo executives.

Cisco used a wall-sized screen to display multiple statistics such as fouls, yellow and red cards, team lineups, and player biographies — generated in real time, running parallel to one side of the main broadcast screen.

Users could share real-time stats and comments with friends on social media like Twitter, Facebook, etc. using tablets, laptops and smartphones. When a team scored a goal, the user could view three additional angles in real time in the main screen.

Last year, the second screen video application for The Voice Brasil powered by Cisco Videoscape had achieved 70 percent growth in viewership over the previous season.

Raymundo Barros, CTO, TV Globo, said: “Cisco shares our belief in the power of 4K/Ultra HD video to extend our viewers’ engagement beyond the broadcast. Live sports coverage in 4K/Ultra HD will change the way people think and feel about watching sports forever.”
