Huawei starts cable manufacturing for Far East submarine system

Huawei Marine Networks has started manufacturing the cable for the Far East submarine system.

This follows Huawei’s contract with Rostelecom.

The Chinese telecom network vendor will also shortly start manufacturing other wet plant for this system.

In June 2014, Huawei signed a turnkey system design and development contract with Rostelecom, Russia’s national telecommunications operator to enhance communications for the Far East region of Russia and provide high-capacity connectivity across the Sea of Okhotsk.

Huawei will deploy slimline repeatered system in two segments – with a total length of more than 1,900km — linking Okha in Sakhalin Island with Ola in Magadan and Ust-Bolsheretsk in Kamchatka which currently relies on satellite infrastructure.

Utilizing Huawei Marine’s 100 Gbps technology which features 2nd Soft-Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC), each segment of the Far East Submarine Cable System will have an initial 2-fiber pairs lit, designed to have a capacity of 1.6 Tbps. The project is due for completion Q4, 2015.
