Total broadband access equipment market revenue is expected to peak in 2028, fueled by ongoing DOCSIS 4.0 and fiber rollouts by cable and fiber internet service providers. The latest forecast marks an upward revision from January, driven by an increase in projected fiber home coverage.

PON equipment revenue is set to rise from $10.7 billion in 2024 to $12.6 billion in 2029, led by XGS-PON deployments across North America, EMEA, CALA, and advanced deployments like FTTR and 50G PON in China. Cable Distributed Access Equipment revenue is forecasted to peak at $1.2 billion in 2028, reflecting the momentum of DOCSIS 4.0 and early fiber transitions.

Fixed Wireless CPE revenue is anticipated to peak in 2025–2026, driven by sub-6 GHz 5G and emerging millimeter wave devices. Meanwhile, the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 will push residential router and broadband CPE revenue to $8.6 billion by 2029, highlighting growing consumer demand for advanced home networking solutions.

Broadband investment

Major telecom operators around the world are continuing to invest heavily in broadband infrastructure to support growing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services.

In the United States, AT&T and Comcast are expanding their fiber deployments, with AT&T targeting 30 million fiber locations by 2025.

Verizon is also ramping up investment in its Fios fiber and 5G Home broadband services.

In Europe, operators like BT Group and Orange are advancing fiber rollouts, with BT aiming to reach 25 million premises with full-fiber broadband by 2026 through its Openreach subsidiary.

Deutsche Telekom is accelerating its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Germany.

In Asia, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom are investing in fiber and 5G infrastructure, driving national broadband penetration.

Japanese operators like NTT and KDDI are maintaining high levels of fiber investment to sustain one of the world’s fastest broadband ecosystems.

In India, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are pushing fiber broadband expansion in urban and rural areas, leveraging both fixed-line and wireless technologies.

Across Africa, operators such as MTN and Airtel Africa are increasing broadband access through fiber and fixed wireless deployments, aiming to bridge the digital divide.
