Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio Fiber Services will be launched on September 5.
September 5 will mark the third anniversary of Reliance Jio. Reliance Jio, which has 340 million 4G subscribers across India, has demonstrated 1Gbps data speeds promising high speed broadband to Indians. It will be priced between Rs 700-10,000 targeting all Indians across the country.
Reliance Jio also showcased ultrafast multi-party video conferencing solution for home users at the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of RIL today in Mumbai.
Mukesh Ambani has revealed that Jio Fiber service generated 15 million registrations across 1,600 towns. The company has plans to reach 20 million residences and 15 million businesses with Jio Fiber service.
Mukesh Ambani said Reliance Jio and Microsoft have entered into an alliance. Reliance Jio will set up large data centres across India, while Microsoft will bring the Azure platform to reliance Jio.
Reliance Jio does not reveal its capital expenditure (Capex) for building the telecom network in India.
Jio will focus on business areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), home broadband service, enterprise broadband service and SME broadband service, Mukesh Ambani said.
Reliance Jio will connect 1 billion Indian homes on its Internet-of-Things platform, said Mukesh Ambani.
Business areas such as IoT, home broadband, Entertainment and MSME Broadband will be the next growth engines for Jio. Jio’s IoT platform will be commercially available from 1 January 2020. This offers Rs 20,000 crore revenue opportunity on an annual basis, Mukesh Ambani said.
The company has invested in 14 startups that complement Jio’s services.
Reliance Jio’s cost effective GigaFiber service will compete with Airtel’s fiber-optic based service, Airtel V-Fiber. Airtel offers the V-Fiber service at a starting price of Rs 799 in select locations. The maximum speeds V-Fiber users get is 300Mbps. Reliance Jio promised up to 1Gbps data speeds with Gigafiber.
Reliance Jio is running a GigaFiber Preview Offer offering up to 100Mbps free data to users. Jio gives 50Mbps of speed on Wi-Fi. Users can access 100Mbps speed with LAN connection to the router, Hindustan Times reported.
